A Soup Opera
By Jim Gill
Illustrated by David Moose
A new book to read, sing and play…..with an orchestrated CD included!

The orchestra tunes.  The audience is filled with anticipation. The conductor brings the musicians to attention. The opera begins!

A Soup Opera is a richly illustrated story about a man, a bowl of soup and the man’s operatic and comically frustrating quest to eat it.   Additional characters in the cast include a chef, a police officer and the President of the United States!  The book is based on a silly concert piece that Jim performs with symphony orchestras throughout the country.

With inspiration from an orchestrated CD (included), children and parents will enjoy playfully singing the story together.  Classroom teachers and librarians will enjoy the opportunity to dramatize the book with children using the CD recording as accompaniment.

It is, quite simply, a book to read, sing and play!

Note for teachers and librarians:

A Soup Opera was created in a way that makes it simple to dramatize in a classroom, library storytime, or even on a family reading night.

The book is, essentially, a pattern book.  The dialogue is a joy for children to sing….or lip sync… in a silly operatic style.  The text’s narration serves as simple stage directions for the children to follow.  Best of all, the CD serves as orchestrated accompaniment to the dramatization so a full opera can be staged!
